Accessible DVD Ripper

Category: accessible Devices

Post 1 by tealgreen (Generic Zoner) on Friday, 08-May-2009 19:21:43

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a DVD ripper that is accessible with screen readers. I would like to rip the audio from DVD's to play on such as V-Stream, etc. Thanks.

Uhhh, what, have you never heard of receiving assistance from a sighted person? Why don't you get your mom or dad to help you with it? My mother helps me with everything that I cannot do on my own; like crossing streets, writing my papers, typing, and yes, ripping DVDs.

Hey, I want to know something, what is better than Microsoft?

I know there is one can't remember the name of it though .. do a search for the blind cool tech podcast and browse the list of podcast they did a pod cast on atleast one of these.

I think that there is one called transfer my video.
Good luck!

I'd recommend DVD audio extracter. You can try a 30 day demo, and I think the software is $32? Check it out:
here

Post 7 by tealgreen (Generic Zoner) on Saturday, 09-May-2009 9:45:46

Thanks Fuster Cluck for the suggestion. I will check it out.

To you Little Smoky, sounds like you have quite a momma. Tell me, does she even wipe your ass for you and does she also give you pleasure? If she does, I bet she's not even as good as your hands when you learn how to complete that chore by yourself. Oh wait ... you might need some skills training for that ... By the way, can you get your daddie to wipe my ass for me and give me some pleasure? Unlike my boyfriend, some is better than none!!!

Post 8 by laced-unlaced (Account disabled) on Tuesday, 12-May-2009 8:50:46

to post 2, i think that's out of order. the poster was only asking a question

and to post 1, i don't know any myself, but good luck with finding one anyway

Post 9 by FutherMuckingPrincess (Generic Zoner) on Saturday, 23-May-2009 16:46:07

If you can't find a dvd ripper, one suggestion I have that has worked for me is getting a piece of audio recording software and manually recording my dvd audio. I have a piece of software called wave pad. I think they make a dvd ripper, too, but I'm not sure. To download Wave pad and other pieces of software that the company make:
Let me know if the link works.

Post 10 by FutherMuckingPrincess (Generic Zoner) on Saturday, 23-May-2009 17:07:51

I just found a web site that provides a free dvd ripping program called magic dvd ripper. To download it,
click this link
Good luck!

Post 11 by Little Smoky (Veteran Zoner) on Saturday, 23-May-2009 21:07:35

To post 7, it is only a chore because my girlfriend doesn't know how to do it properly. But then again, you're probably worse than my girlfriend. Oh, and by the way, I don't believe that you have a boyfriend. Why don't you go get yourself a juicer and power juice it?
To post 8, you think that I was out of line but the post 7 was okay?

Post 12 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Sunday, 24-May-2009 20:53:23

dVD audio extractor works pretty well.

Post 13 by guitargod1 (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Tuesday, 23-Jun-2009 14:35:17

yes I've used dvd audio extractor for a few years now. you can rip by title or chapter, you can choose what audio format you want, mp3, ogg, etc, you can choose the bit rate and normalization. Also, you can rip all the hidden features on a dvd if you like, which is neat.

Post 14 by saiyan4414 (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Sunday, 13-Sep-2009 19:22:52

Do any of you guys know of a DVD ripper that rips the whole DVD and not just the audio?

Post 15 by kithri (Help me, I'm stuck to my chair!) on Monday, 14-Sep-2009 17:46:48

I haven't tried ripping DVD'Syet as I have to install some software from microsoft to be able to run them first, but that's a really cool idea. And, isn't it just like copying regular CD'S? If you burn a dvd to another disk, won't you get the audio and visual parts both? Or doesn't it work that way?

Also to post 2, I suggest you find an organization for the blind and get yourself some life skills training as well as mobility training otherwise you're going to be in real trouble in the real world. Yes, there are times when asking sighted people for help is helpful and even necessary, but not for everything.

Post 16 by monkeypusher69 (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Monday, 14-Sep-2009 20:12:21

Nope DVDs are copy protected and well is illegal to copy them even for fair use, such as ripping a dvd you own to your HD so you can have movies to watch on a trip without having to bring the disc with you. That being said you need special software to do it. I know of a few and i believe they all have free trials so you can try them to see how they work and how accessible they are. Any DVD is a popular one, as is handbrake. DVD Shrink was another good one as well. Also programs like MagicISO or PowerISO are useful if you wjust want a perfect clone of any disc including DVDs.

Post 17 by Harmony (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Thursday, 01-Oct-2009 17:45:35

I want to know something about stupid microsoft. Why won't that stupid invention called Windows Media Player recognize my DVD's when it recognizes CD's perfectly fine and the DVD's are perfectly legal because i bought most of them from a shop a couple of years ago? Is there any program that will actually do this so I can rip then to the computer and get them ordered peroperly rather that just randomly play them and not do anything else?

Post 18 by Little Smoky (Veteran Zoner) on Saturday, 03-Oct-2009 7:58:23

To post 15, why would I need training in blindness skills? That's what sighted people are for! I am always with one or more sighted people so that they could take care of my needs. In real world, as you say it, there are tons of sighted people that I can rely on for help. That's why I never leave the house without a sighted family member or a friend. These blind organizations you speak of, I don't believe that they exist and that you are just making them up. I know of no blind person who can go out of his or her house independently. So, either you are not blind and should not be on this site, or you should not be talking about things that you don't know anything about, such as blindness or being blind.

Post 19 by Little Smoky (Veteran Zoner) on Saturday, 03-Oct-2009 8:04:30

By the way, to the original poster, did you finally find a sighted person to help you with your problem? Like I've said, you really should ask your mom or dad for help so that you wouldn't screw it up or hurt yourself.

Post 20 by Harmony (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Saturday, 03-Oct-2009 11:48:07

Oh come on. I am blind and yes I can and do go out of my house on my own, thank you very much, so don't know where you got that idea from. Well anyway, I have tried using Nero just to go back to the original post, but I can't remember where to get a demo from or if it rips dvd or just cd.

Post 21 by Harmony (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Saturday, 03-Oct-2009 12:04:55

I've just been talking to a friend who told me a program which I kind of forgot about called cdex. Has anyone used this? Apparently it copies both CD's and DVD's. I'm going to have a look at it in a bit.

Post 22 by Little Smoky (Veteran Zoner) on Saturday, 03-Oct-2009 13:12:23

To post 20, well, I got that idea from my lifelong experience. When my blind friends and I go out, we always have a sighted person to guide us. One person holds onto the sighted person and then another person holds onto the person holding on to the sighted person and so on. That way, none of us would get lost and/or fall down or anything like that. So don't tell me that you are blind and that you can do stuff on your own. Maybe you are insecure about your blindness and want to project an image of independence, but it's okay to ask others for help. Heck even sighted people ask others for help. Like this morning, I had my mom help me with putting on a t-shirt because I didn't know which way was the front. It's better to ask for help than to go out wearing a t-shirt backward, don't you think? So, my point is that it's okay to ask sighted people to do stuff for you instead of trying to do things on your own. For example, some of you guys use dogs, right? How is that any different than me having a sighted guide every time I leave my house?

Post 23 by monkeypusher69 (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Saturday, 03-Oct-2009 16:07:09

ripping dvd's unlike ripping cds are illegal and you have to crack copy protection everytime you do it. This is why programs like windows meadia player will only play dvds while it will ripp cds. you have to get a program made speciffacally for ripping dvds to ripp a dvd. I believe nero only will ripp cd and non copy protected dvds also.

Post 24 by KC8PNL (The best criticism of the bad is the practice of the better.) on Saturday, 03-Oct-2009 18:49:27

Little Smoky is right. I never go out alone. I mean, I could trip on a peace of grass and fall down! I tried to wype my own ass once, but just ended up making a dingo bury decoration on the wall that resembled a Pacosso painting.

Post 25 by Little Smoky (Veteran Zoner) on Saturday, 03-Oct-2009 19:11:34

I think what fuster cluck is trying to say is that blind people should be extra careful not to make mess of things. For example, my family call me a porcelain painter for a reason, and it's not because I like to paint porcelain dolls or anything. As another example, when I was in college, I had a sighted person go with me to all of my classes and take notes for me. And when paper was due, the sighted person would write what I had to say onto papers. After all, I know how to read braille doesn't mean that my professors could, right? So I couldn't turn in my braille essays in; somebody had to handwrite what I had to say, right? I mean, how else would blind people write their papers? Anyway, the point is that blind people should be greatful that we have sighted people to help us out all the time. One of my blind friend got left home all by herself for a week once, and boy, I'll tell you, she couldn't go anywhere and couldn't cook anything! She ate the same food over and over again for a week!

Post 26 by KC8PNL (The best criticism of the bad is the practice of the better.) on Saturday, 03-Oct-2009 20:04:29

Wow, the details we are learning about Tealgreen are astounding! Hey, nothing wrong with recycled food, right? It's hot and ready the minute it comes out. I mean, sometimes you have to sacrifice some of your paint for food, especially when no one is around to cook for you. Someone told me that they used to call little smoky golden shower boy because he peed everywhere but in the toilet.

Post 27 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Tuesday, 06-Oct-2009 12:54:06

Hahaha. Well, this comment really should be posted on the "Daily Living" board, but to those who think sighted people will always be around to help you with everything, grow up and step out of your little fantasy land! Yes, sighted people are often there, and available, but you can't use sighted people's eyes like dog guides all the time.

Getting back to the topic at hand, I personally like DVD Audio Extracter. If you desperately need a free way to do it, you can open an audio recording program such as GoldWave, or really anything that will record audio. Then, get the DVD ready to play in Windows Media Player or something like that, and then use Stereo Mix through Volume Control to record it. Sometimes it's called "Stereo Mix", sometimes it's called "What You Hear", and still other times it's called "Wave Outmix". There might even be other ways. It doesn't sound quite as good, and you have to make sure your microphone volume is muted at this time, and that your screen reader doesn't say anything, but it works if you have no other way.

Post 28 by Little Smoky (Veteran Zoner) on Wednesday, 07-Oct-2009 1:10:43

To poster 27. Well, I don't know. There has always been a sighted person near me to help me out all my life. Maybe you're not nice to sightedpeople as I am. Maybe you should try being more nice to sighted people, then maybe they'll be there for you to help you out with things that you need to do; like changing out the roll of toilet paper. I mean, you cannot do that by yourself if you are blind, right? So, what, are you not going to wipe your butt?

Post 29 by tealgreen (Generic Zoner) on Wednesday, 07-Oct-2009 8:16:15

Yeah I agree with post 28 because God gave sight to humans for a reason so it's only right that we who are blind to utilize those with sight wisely. I not only have a sighted person to change out a roll of toilet paper, but I also have someone to wipe my ass properly. Afterall, if you can't see, how can you make sure that your ass is cleaned as a whistle? I can think of a couple of times, where I had tried to wipe my own ass but lo and behold when I went to pull my pants, up, I had smeared shit all over myself because I didn't have sight to see that I still had pooh dangling out my asshole. I had missed so much shit that I smeared it so bad that not only did I smeared it all over my pants but onto my hand which as a result got into my hair and face because afterwords, I went and brushed my hair and touched my face not knowing that I had gotten pooh on my hands. Obviously I didn't have sight to see that I had smeared shit on my face and in my hair and went on through the day with this extra weight. I even went out in public with pooh visible to see. In short, it is highly recommended to have someone with sight to do things for you or in a blind person's world, to wipe your ass.

Post 30 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Wednesday, 07-Oct-2009 8:31:38

Yep, because since you can't see that you still have crap on your hands, you obviously can't feel it either. Everyone knows that. Shame on me for making such a post. And yep. Every time a sighted person asks me if I need help, I call them an assehole and shove them to the ground and then stomp all over them, every time, all so I can do things by myself.

*sarcastic*

Post 31 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Wednesday, 07-Oct-2009 8:31:57

And now getting back to the DVD ripper...

Post 32 by Little Smoky (Veteran Zoner) on Wednesday, 07-Oct-2009 10:40:45

To poster 29. Are you making fun of me? Everyone! I think that the poster 29 was making fun of me because I am not as insecure about my blindness as she is. Of course everyone knows that blind people's hands are like eyes for the sighted people. For the poster 29 to say that she didn't know that she had stuff all over her hands is like saying that a sighted person didn't know that he or she had stuff all over his or her eyes! GET! OFF! THE! ZONE! POSTER! 29! Blindness is a serious issue and I don't appreciate you making fun of my handicap! If you have been blind all your life as I have, you would know the importance of learning things through touch! I mean, how else would I know what my parents look alike if I didn't touch their faces or if a girl is pretty without touching her face with my hands? You are an embarrassment to blind community! Thinking that you are better than the rest of us as if you are sighted or something!

Post 33 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Wednesday, 07-Oct-2009 21:30:52

Should I say what I think, or what I should think? lol. Well, my sighted help says I should say what I should think. In that case, hope you found your accessible DVD ripper, in some way or another. lol.

Post 34 by LaneKeys (Resident Grungehead) on Wednesday, 07-Oct-2009 21:44:59

OK, first I'll address the real topic, even though many have already recommended it, DVD audio extractor is good. The best I've found.

Now on to this... this... whatever it is. I have a pretty good filter for sarcasm, but even I don't know whether to laugh or be confused. Sure, it's a topic for an entirely different board, and sure, it has nothing to do with anything the poster was wanting to know, but damn it, little smokey has some real moxy for sticking to this like he has in the face of what would seem to be insurmountable odds. I mean, look at all us blind people who lived on our own for untold numbers of years, and have had good jobs, make their own money, that's the most disgraceful pile of vomit it has ever been my displeasure to encounter! How dare we think we can do that sort of thing. Mommy should be doing that. Come on, I'm only 27, totally blind since birth, and somehow I managed it.

Post 35 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Wednesday, 07-Oct-2009 21:46:26

Come on, Lane. How could you possibly expect him to know such elegant vocabulary without his Mommy looking it up in the dictionary for him? lol!

Post 36 by KC8PNL (The best criticism of the bad is the practice of the better.) on Thursday, 08-Oct-2009 6:46:43

I was told that Tealgreen was releasing the above adventure on dvd, and she willl need to rip the audio from it, so it's on topic. It's going to be entitled, adventures that aren't pretty, but ar shitty, in the city. Soon to be followed by Little Smoky's release, prior proper planning prevents piss poor performances. The nerrarators are their moms'.

Post 37 by Damia (I'm oppinionated deal with it.) on Thursday, 08-Oct-2009 14:12:18

OMG this board got pretty twisted but amusing.

on the dvd note again I'd like to whore out dvd audio extractor, but on another note....

sounds like little smokey knows a woman I work with and they have simelar problems with shit. hahaa worst part is she's a mother.
*cringe

Post 38 by monkeypusher69 (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Thursday, 08-Oct-2009 15:44:11

will these be straight to dvd releases? or can i catc them in a theatre somewhere first? And if you need a pro voice over guy for the descriptions i am your man but you'll have to provide the sighted person to read me the script.

Post 39 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Thursday, 08-Oct-2009 17:56:13

I suppose Little Smokey could do that, since he seems to know plenty of helpful sighted people. hahaha!

Post 40 by LaneKeys (Resident Grungehead) on Thursday, 08-Oct-2009 18:37:02

Sure thing, since it's making him a hollywood star. Hell, it could be the first blind Coprophiliac porno.

Post 41 by KC8PNL (The best criticism of the bad is the practice of the better.) on Friday, 09-Oct-2009 1:05:20

Instead of Zac and meriam make a Porno, it could be Tealgreen and little smoky make a porno. LOL

Post 42 by OceanDream (An Ocean of Thoughts) on Friday, 09-Oct-2009 13:54:31

Haven't they already been doing that, in some sort of sick twisted sense? lol!

Post 43 by LaneKeys (Resident Grungehead) on Friday, 09-Oct-2009 18:18:26

I can't be sure, but I think I've been detecting the subtle undertones for quite some time now.

Post 44 by Harmony (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Saturday, 10-Oct-2009 17:42:25

OK. This is getting stupid but funny at the same time now. Why don't you move it to the daily living board or something? Going back to. the. original. question, no I haven't managed to find any more accessible DVD rippers, so will probably have to watch them on the dvd player for now. I never thought of getting a microphone and recording it though, but then again I don't have a recording program on my laptop at the minute, so kind of can't unfortunately.
